To Make a Votive

image.jpg

Hey there! We are in Denver at the moment, but I had to share this cute little DIY! I've been loving the eye trend going on in decor at the moment, and have been looking for a way to incorporate it into our house without looking too "big brother is watching you". This little votive is subtle and simple, two of my favorite adjectives. The only downside to votives is that we are using battery powered tea lights, due to our little munchkins wandering hands. It's just safer, and easier. Get the how-to below!

Materials Needed:

- air dry clay

- a rolling pin

- something to carve your design with, I used an old dried up pen lol

- paint

Directions:

Step one - roll out one small ball of clay and one ping pong ball sized.

Step two - using a butter knife, slice off the sides of your large piece to form a rectangle, and shape your smaller piece of clay into a flat disc.

Step three - carve out your eye shape. Start with an almond shape on both ends of the eye. Then leave a circle, attached at the top and bottom of the eye, to form the pupil. Next, mark your eyelashes by making short cures into the clay above the eye.  Attach to your flat disc piece by wrapping your rectangle piece gently around the base, and seal the two ends by rubbing a little water onto the clay where they meet.

Step four - let dry overnight, and then add your candle and enjoy!
