One of the perks of winter is having dry lips, right? No, having dry lips is not fun. Come January, I am always dying from the dry air. It messes with my hair, skin, nails and lips. This is when staying hydrated becomes just as important as it is when it's 100 degrees out. Sadly though, even when I chug a gallon of water every day, it doesn't seem to cut it for my lips. They just come into contact with the cold wind too often. I had to find a remedy.
Coconut oil is a fad for a reason, and one of it's many uses is being perfect for keeping your lips moisturized. I had seen a lot of organic lip scrubs using coconut oil and essential oils, so I figured that I should probably just make one instead of spending $20. I didn't have to purchase anything for this project. I even already had the containers, though I can't remember why. There are only three ingredients, and you'd be hard pressed to find that in any factory made scrub, organic or not. Now, my lips are nice and happy, and they can stay that way all year round, thanks to this cute little DIY. Check it out below!
- 1 tbs. coconut oil
- 1 tbs. sugar (brown or white, up to you)
- whatever essential oil you like! I chose lavender.
- a small, lip balm sized container. (Amazon is always a good bet)
- Mix your coconut oil and sugar together. Then, drop in a few drops of the essential oil and mix. Spoon into your container and you're done!
